On Tuesday, April 5, students viewed a video about Indonesia and took notes in their spiral notebooks as they watched.  They have an assignment to write a one-page paper (at least), "My Impressions of Indonesia."  This writing is due Friday, April 8.

Last week on block day, students made a list of the 12 countries and capitals of Southeast Asia.  Students were given a printed map of Southeast Asia on which they were to write the names of the 12 countries and then color the map.  This was classwork due April 6/7 but would need to be finished at home if needed.

Students should be studying the list and map of Southeast Asia.  They need to know the names (spelling included) of the 12 countries and 6 (checked on list in spiral)of the capitals.  Students were assigned to do a silly sheet as they studied.  The test on the political map of Southeast Asia will be next Friday, April 15.

On Tuesday, May 3, students will  be tested on part of the physical features of the continent of Africa.  Students have a list of physical features in their spiral notebooks, and they have a practice map which they should have labeled already.  They will be tested only on the rivers, mountains, deserts, and lakes...and only those categories should be labeled on their maps.  A word bank will be supplied, so knowing how to spell the names is not necessary.

On Friday, May 13, students will have their second physical features test on Africa.  Students were given a second map on which to write the additional 25 physical features (listed in their spiral notebooks).  Students will have a word bank listing the 25 features, so again the students are not responsible for knowing the spelling of the features, only the location of them.

On Monday, May 23, students will be tested on their knowledge of 22 of the countries of Africa.  Students have a list of the 22 countries in their spirals, and they were given a map of Africa on which to write the names of the countries and study.  The political map for the countries can be found on p.610 in the text.  For the test, there will be no word bank.  Students need to know the names and spellings of the countries and where to place the names on a map of Africa.

Extra Credit:  Students were given oral directions for drawing/coloring an African tribal mask.  The drawing should be on white poster board.  No written report is needed, but students should write down the name of the tribe, the country/countries of the tribe, the traditional use of the mask, and students should print a copy of the mask from the source they use.  (Due Monday, May 23)
